BRUSSELS -- European Commissioner for Crises Management Janez Lenarčič on Friday thanked Greece for the vaccines against the novel coronavirus sent to Greece's neighbours, Albania and North Macedonia.

Following a request from authorities in the two countries to the European Union, Greece offered 100,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to each country via the EU civil protection mechanism.

Lenarčič welcomed the offer as an example of the rapid coordination enabled by the European Civil Protection Mechanism, which proved vital for the support of countries during the pandemic.
