Greece Extends Vaccination Program as Coronavirus Deaths Fall

Health authorities in Greece recorded 1,497 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Saturday, which marks 88 fewer instances of the virus than the 1,585 cases recorded on Friday.

Just one of Saturday’s new confirmed cases was identified during routine Covid-19 testing of tourists at the country’s borders.

Greece lifts quarantine for 7 more non-EU countries; PCR test for Children

Civil Aviation Authority in Greece announced that it lifts the 7-day quarantine also for travellers from seven more non -EU countries. In a statement issued on Sunday, the CAA said also that arriving children over a certain age will need a negative PCR test.

The CAAt extends restrictions on domestic flights until May 10 and that only essential travel is allowed between Greek airports.

For international flights, travel restrictions are extended until 6:00 a.m. on May 3.

Internationals interested in obtaining a Greek golden visa, which among others enables them to visit all Schengen countries visa-free, are required to make an investment of a minimum of €252,328 in the country. This is one among many other reasons why the international experts on real estate firm, immigration firm Astons, have ranked Greece as the most favourable location for international investors on its recent survey.

Greece is working on agreements with ten countries on vaccine passports

As the European Commission gets ready to present a proposal to allow vaccinated people to freely travel across the bloc, countries such as Greece have already started working on their own vaccine passports.

Determined to open tourism to foreign visitors in the spring, a pilot phase of flights bringing visitors from some European countries, Israel and the United Kingdom will begin in April.

From mid-May, more countries will be added to the list of those who do not need to quarantine upon arrival.

Instead, they will need a vaccine certificate, an immune certificate or a negative COVID-19 result.

Cavusoglu’s Athens visit confirmed

Ankara on Tuesday confirmed reports that Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu will visit Greece on May 31, without ruling out a last-minute change for his arrival to take place on May 30 so as to include a meeting in Hania on Crete with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

More vaccines available for 35-39 year-olds

Individuals aged between 35 and 39 as of Wednesday have access to all coronavirus vaccines – and not just the AstraZeneca shot. 

The platform is expected to open in full in the coming days for 30-34 year-olds.

A new government campaign is expected to be launched next week with its central message being to encourage people to get vaccinated for Covid-19.

The expediting of the vaccination program has become even more imperative due to increasing tourism on the islands and the mainland.

Speaking after the conclusion of an EU summit Tuesday, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitstoakis said the option of vaccinating children aged 12 or older will be discussed as soon as the European Medicines Agency (EMA) approves them.

Such a decision would “provide a new dynamic for vaccinations,” Mitsotakis told journalists.
